![]() ![]() Whichever part is requested most by my neighbors is the one I gift for that day. So I look at my first batch of requests after the daily reset and tally them up. Starting on Day 4 of an event, I want to start gifting for the second appliance but worry I may be rushing things. Bakery Story Basics Guide Get to know the popular game Bakery Story with our introductory guide to this game. It normally takes me 2 days (3 days when I'm super busy with life stuff) to build all three appliances needed so I figure the same timeline applies to my neighbors since they're mostly long time level 99 players as well. Search for more answers for Bakery Story or ask your own question here. The first three days, I naturally gift the parts for the first appliance. I don't have a lot of time to devote to gifting which is the entire purpose behind mass gifting, right? So, as a general rule of thumb, I base my daily gifts on my requests. Over the past couple of decades, five workers have died on the job at Fiera Foods, sparking protests, investigations and allegations of a dangerous workplace. (Either to build more than 3 or because they're slow-no judgment, I'm pretty slow myself.) Is day 4 the magic number? Should I wait to send 2nd oven parts until day 5 and just let the fast builders eliminate me? Question for my fellow mass-gifters: when do you switch from 1st appliance parts to 2nd appliance parts? I mean, some players might have 3 ovens built after 2 days and want 2nd oven parts on day 3, but I still get so many requests for 1st oven parts after that. I mean who keeps track of every other players' progress? Anyways just sharing different players have different views and playstyles best suited to individual lifestyles and real life matters. What he didn't state previously on his wall was he did not want goal parts as soon as he finished the goal and not when the goals are over according to the timer. Then I realised that he deleted me, without letting me know, and I found out that he had finished his goals and wanted basic parts although the goals are still in progress and I had been sending him goal parts without fail every day. Someone invited me as a neighbour and I read his wall and thought we had the same playstyle - gifting goal parts during goal and basic/other parts for non goal days. I'll share a recent incident that happened to me. Tipping back everyone used to be 3 hours per day for me, just pure tipping back, not counting taking notes of requests or gifting or baking etc. I could related to what AnnirasSweets said cos I have hundreds of neighbours. Unless you playing Bakery full time and taking notes of individual requests, that's pretty impossible. Yes I know I can decline the gifts, but why should I gift to them and get nothing in return. You know it's not easy to keep track of individual requests of hundreds of neighbours or who has or has not finished their goals when you have lots of neighbours. The other thing that frustrates me is when you have finished collecting goal parts and you write on your wall and your neighbors wall that you are back to collecting basic parts until next goal and they still send you goal parts. ![]() ![]() ![]() Akshay took training in Thai Boxing and Tai Chi there and returned as Isa Six Degree Black Belt holder. ![]() ![]() As The Daily Beast points out, the impetus for her decision to keep working seems to come after she views a favorite old VHS tape of one of Bernstein’s “ Young People’s Concerts” made to help introduce the great composers to children. And both are, in the end, fairly pricey experiences for the audience, even if Monster Hunter is on the lower end.Ī classical fan might say the difference is in the music, but at the end of the day, is there that much space between John Williams and Gustav Mahler? The key figure connecting this all is Lydia’s inspiration, famed composer Leonard Bernstein. Lydia herself is noted to be an EGOT winner, meaning she has worked in film and television, maybe even on a musical. Games like Bloodborne, Journey, and Final Fantasy 14 incorporate multiple classical compositional styles and techniques, from waltzes to choral chanting. Even if she does think the subject is beneath her, she gives it as much attention as she gives Mahler.īut for an audience, what exactly is the difference between dressing in your finest for Mahler and cosplaying for a Monster Hunter show? Culturally speaking, people tend to think of movie and game scores as separate from symphonic music, even though they use the same instruments and techniques. It’s worth noting that she treats the Monster Hunter: World concert like any other assignment: She studies the music, rehearses with intention and focus, and discusses the work progress with the other performers. ![]() Writer-director Todd Field doesn’t pick any clear sides: Lydia is clearly a talented, capable conductor, but she apparently grooms young students for transactional sexual relationships, and is willing to ruin their careers if they offend her. An initial reading of that ending suggests that she’s been reduced to conducting corporate background music for an audience that’s never going to fawn over her like the attendees at that New Yorker panel in the film’s opening scene.Īs tempting as it is to read the Monster Hunter: World concert as a humiliation for her, though, that interpretation doesn’t show the full story. It is, to put it lightly, a sharp veer away from Lydia’s previous project, conducting a series of Gustav Mahler pieces with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. And she’s conducting the music for Monster Hunter, a series where players hack dragons and dinosaurs to death, harvest them for parts and meat, and give the proceeds to an anthropomorphic cat assistant to make weapons with. There’s the location: Lydia Tár is so toxic that she’s been exiled to a place where her name means nothing. The audience’s first instinct is probably to view Lydia’s latest job as a humiliating downgrade. So when Monster Hunter: World’s opening cutscene starts playing, and viewers see this silent, serious audience in their elaborate costumes, it’s hard not to laugh at the sheer absurdity of it all, especially given the high stakes and grim story that precedes it. ![]() In the lead-up to the event, as Lydia consults with the organizers and explores the venue, the audience is led to believe this is just a normal symphonic concert, just one with less of the glitz and glamour she’s been accustomed to with her conducting work in Berlin and New York. The opening credit is a small Chekhov’s gun that’s easy to miss, and as Lydia navigates the fallout of her sexual exploitation of her students, there’s no indication that this is where the movie is heading. The next ground your feet will touch will be that of the New World.” The camera pans through an audience dressed in elaborate cosplay outfits, revealing that the famed Lydia Tár - one of the most famous conductors in this fictional world - has been reduced to conducting a Monster Hunter live event concert. Once you board this ship, there’s no turning back. ![]() I’ll keep my farewell brief - never was much with words. “Sisters and brothers of the Fifth Fleet, it’s time. Once established onto one route, players can make 3-4 choices that matter towards the outcome of the route, between friendship and romance. Not until completing Ikki’s routes did I finally come to the realization that no matter what route you take, the structure feels too familiar.įujiwara Bittersweet is a non-kinetic novel, meaning it has choices that branch the story in different paths and scenarios. Kenji was my second choice-how can I pass up a redhead with an eyepatch? Going through his routes, I was also a bit let down, but couldn’t quite figure out why. Didn’t feel quite as climactic, though still fairly solid. Then I did Haru’s romance route, after initially getting her friendship route. First time through, it was nothing short of a really satisfying experience. The writing is generally very down to earth and spirited, even providing side characters with a lot of charming enthusiasm to counteract some bouts of gloominess (Ichigo is great). It also helped that the character I was immediately interested in, Haru, ended up being whom I chose first (at random). When I started the story, I was immediately entranced with the prospect of getting to know these characters and seeing what makes them who they are. Characters and RoutesĪs much as the bittersweet vibes were agreeable to me throughout, there’s an unfortunate degradation effect that takes place. What’s more relatable than going through teenage angst in high school? The story harnesses that energy (with some exaggeration) and provides an immersive quality almost by default. Though some may find this to be a bland choice, I don’t feel there’s anything necessarily wrong with doing what’s familiar in a very efficient manner. What could Fujiwara Bittersweet possibly do to stand out? Doki Doki Literature Club decided to subvert expectations and revel in players’ complete shock and awe in its total abandonment of genre norms. What does this say about these characters?Īt this point, there are likely tens of thousands of visual novels out there. Quite a bold way to introduce one of the romanceable options! How the course of the story flows is entirely up to the route you choose, with the decision implemented fairly early on in the game. Others will call you trash and threaten you with death with every interaction. Some are quite open and kind, even to the point of being oblivious of the effect they have on others. Relaxing music, colorful and evocative art style, and… well, the characters are pretty mixed in this regard. This comforting aura is something that becomes quickly evident while reading through the first five minutes. No matter what happens, there will always be some good around the corner. Through a series of unfortunate(?) events, she ends up acquainted with a number of people in her class and outside of it, setting the stage for her bittersweet life to begin. She, like most anyone else, wants to make friends and enjoy the pleasantries that being around others her age can provide. General NarrativeĪya is a first-year high school student who starts off isolated and alone. Gameplay takes a backseat to how engrossing characters and story are to the player, and Fujiwara Bittersweet certainly tries to emulate the ebb and flow of fictional high school life. Given this is an otome game, the story will be the major selling point. Does this fare any better? It’s certainly fluffier!įujiwara Bittersweet is available to play for free on Steam and itch.io.ģ) Graphics & Audio – Rainbow Roles Story – Bittersweet Is Accurate ![]() This marks my second time reviewing this type of game after also trying out Love Spell some months ago. One other thing to note is that this is an otome game-a visual novel typically directed at women with all-male options for romance. A nice measure of fairness and accessibility that’s surprising rare within the genre, at least from my experience. ![]() What this does is route you on one of two paths, both providing a nice sense of fulfillment for the effort. Typically, if you don’t choose the “correct” options, you’ll end up with a rather lackluster or even “bad” end in non-kinetic novels. What gives this a bit of a twist is the result of the player’s choices. But what is knowing of happiness without some manner of the opposite? A narrative path consisting of all manners of moods is what to expect here. ![]() Visual novels don’t always have this sense of brightness, but Fujiwara Bittersweet is a title that coasts on the pleasant vibes of high school friends and blossoming romance. A nice slice of life that coats you in a warm embrace that puts you at ease. Sometimes you want a nice, relaxing treat. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yvain Gnabro passed away this past June. His public Facebook profile is absent most personal information, but he regularly shared stills, clips, and articles relating to animation, right up to the time of his death. It’s wonderful to browse through, if you enjoyed “The Last Bastion” and want to learn more about some of its influences. Who is Yvain Gnabro? He was one of Blizzard’s cinematic animators, an industry veteran with over 12 years experience who was part of the team creating the Overwatch animated shorts. Lastly, you might have noticed the short is dedicated in memory to Yvain Gnabro. But it’s nice to see Blizzard drawing upon the talents of skilled animated storytellers to convey something sincerely moving, even if it’s just for something meant to sell a game. It’s fine to just appreciate the animation as a piece of entertainment. You don’t have to hold to a PTSD/anti-war interpretation of the short, obviously. Overwatch has toyed with its “post-war, reignited conflict” narrative setting in a few ways, but a former combat robot experiencing flashbacks because of gunfire-like noises? That’s a pretty powerful means of driving an idea home. Thematically, “The Last Bastion” is also pretty complex! On the surface it’s telling the story of a lone robotic unit overcoming its old combat-based programming, but you can also interpret Bastion’s responses as representing post-traumatic stress disorder. Two main characters, an internal conflict and an emphasis on nature are the elements that compose this short, which was made to publicize Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch video game. And keep an eye out for a few visual nods to classic animated films, particularly Bambi (the low angle shot on the fallen tree bridge) and the long shot in the field (which we see in quite a few of Studio Ghibli’s features). As you might know, fur, feathers, and water effects are some of the hardest things to pull off in computer generated animation, and you can see a few places where the animators cut some quick corners - the bird doesn’t appear to get wet during rainfall, for instance - but in general these are all handled beautifully. You can dive right into the short embedded above, but I also want to point out a few interesting touches this video has.
